RECENT RESEARCH

From Marzano Research; Visible Learning, this is a quick list of teaching strategies with research to back them up. Only some have references included, but could make good interventions in the classroom.

Rivera, Moughamian, Lesaux, and Francis, 2009. Available from CenterOnInstruction.com.

From NIH, this is a feasibility study about the RECALL program of 6 weeks of classroom intervention for ages 4-5 yrs (preschool).

Institute of Education Science, 2016.

From Newcastle University, UK and University of Central Florida, 2003.

Hite and McGahey, Jacksonville State University, 2015. States there was no statistically significant improvement, but recommended to continue the program.

DIGITAL RESOURCES

More and more of Super Duper's computer software programs are being turned into apps for mobile devices. They are not free, but do track scores, and saves score each time for each RTI data collection.

Use this to create digital activities (mini apps) and it will give you a score at the end. They have over 200 thousand activities that are free to access if you are a teacher or therapist. Teachers must write down the score each time, as the program does not save progress unless you subscribe to their Insights data mgt. program.

Download the free iOS app here. (It's better to create using an iPad than the web creator - more features available).

HELPFUL FORMS

Can be used by classroom teachers or anyone implementing Tier 3 interventions for Speech/Language concerns. Fill out as much as possible before giving it to the teacher, so all they must do is add the date and the response data. Include specific instructions for the activity if needed.

Make sure teacher is looking at the whole child when they refer. Also helps pinpoint what type of Tier 2 intervention to recommend.

Separate checklists for Language grades Kdg-Middle School, Articulation, Fluency, Voice, and Pragmatics. Vital part of assessment.
